Purchase For Purpose was born not from a business plan, but from lived experience.

As a disabled veteran living with service-connected PTSD and a history of suicide attempts, I know firsthand the challenges of navigating the mental health system. Even with access to veterans' benefits, finding timely, consistent care often felt like an uphill battle. My partner, a survivor of domestic violence, faced a different but equally difficult reality: the financial burden of accessing quality mental health support.

Together, we came to a simple realization: millions of people are struggling, not because help doesn't exist, but because it remains out of reach.

Like many families, we found ourselves searching for answers. As avid thrift shoppers, we began studying some of America's most successful nonprofit organizations—institutions such as Goodwill and Habitat for Humanity. What we discovered was remarkable: these organizations had built sustainable, community-driven models that generated millions, and in some cases billions, of dollars in revenue while advancing meaningful social causes.

The question that changed everything was simple:

What if this proven model could be dedicated to mental health?

We weren't interested in reinventing the wheel. Instead, we chose to reimagine it. By applying a time-tested nonprofit thrift model to one of the most urgent challenges facing our communities today, we saw an opportunity to create something both sustainable and transformative.

For us, this mission is deeply personal.

Suicide, trauma, and mental health struggles have touched multiple generations of our families. We know the pain they leave behind. We know the conversations that never happened, the help that came too late, and the lives forever changed. Those experiences became the foundation for a commitment larger than ourselves.

Purchase For Purpose exists to transform everyday generosity into accessible mental health care for individuals, children, and families who need it most. Every donation received, every item purchased, and every community partnership formed becomes part of a larger mission: removing barriers to care and creating pathways to healing.

As we have built this organization, we have also committed ourselves to furthering our own education and professional development so that we can serve this mission with integrity, knowledge, and purpose. We believe that lasting change requires both compassion and competence.

Our vision extends far beyond a thrift store. We envision a future where communities help fund the mental health services they deserve—a future where cost is no longer the deciding factor between suffering alone and receiving support.
